The Cure for Diabetes is Within Our Reach

Click the little heart and listen.........

The cure for diabetes I believe is within our reach. That's a big statement for a non-medical professional. However I have been a insulin dependent diabetic for 21 years, shooting myself up to 5 times a day until I went on the pump. So I do know a lot about this chronic illness.

Today as a sat in a diabetes management class, during our lecture from our diabetes educator it dawned on me that we diabetics need to come together in the same fashion that breast cancer victims have. I support them 100%, in fact I recently went to a funeral of a nice lady that sat behind my wife in class at high school. Her husband, a great guy has did a lot for breast cancer. I have had close friends with it as well, and family members affected by it. Its scary. The Susan G Komen foundation is very well organized and is making a difference in the race for a cure.

There are many diabetic groups out there and need to come under one umbrella the same as Susan G Komen group has. That group is an example to all organizations. Diabetics should take note.

Back in 1988 when I first became diabetic, I was younger, exercised all the time doing martial arts and only took 2 to 5 units per day of slow acting insulin. Honeymoon phase they call it. Well, I am much older, and now its getting very hard to stay on top of it and keep it controlled.

I constantly now do research on dieting, because even vigorous exercise does not work as well as it used to. I also encourage those around me to learn about how to help family members with diabetes. I go one step further to inform my co-workers that if I need to go get something to eat, don't stop me, or say, "can you wait 10 minutes?". No, I can't. I tell them up front that my health is more important than what they may be doing, to me a least! That's very annoying to me when people don't understand. Although, its not their fault, they must be taught, and I teach.

The purpose of this blog is to help inspire and unite fellow diabetics all across the globe about our cause as well. So if you stumbled up on this blog by chance, search or was forwarded it, simply please keep passing this on. Start your own blog and make it go viral. Because I tell you my friends, its no cake walk anymore.

Here is a couple of nice websites devoted to diabetics. Some good ideas, but of course, speak with your diabetic educator and Doctor as well.

Update 2/14/2010
Stem Cell treatment for Diabetes? Its possible now and I think its promising to know that someday, in my opinion, "repairs or rebuild" to the human pancreas may indeed happen. Stem Cells are also promising and are a working treatment for other diseases. I suggest you take a look at Medra.com for more information on their research.

God Bless!
Steve
